Artistic director Akira Watanabe combined the shapes of Tyrannosaurus, Iguanodon, Stegosaurus and crocodile to create the shape of Godzilla, inspired by illustrations from an issue of a life magazine. To emphasize the monster’s relationship to the atomic bomb, its skin structure was inspired by the scar scars of survivors in Hiroshima. Its design has a reptilian face, built strong with an upright posture, a long tail and serrated fins along the back and tail.
